Girl's Swimming

Looking to improve on their 8th place finish from last year, the
girls got off to very quick start, Holly Harper, Nikki Ross, Hannah
Harper, and Kelly Miller crushed the school record by 4 seconds, and
placed second in the 200 Medley Relay. Corie Morton and Mackenzie
Jones had great 200 freestyles, finishing 8th and 14th. In the 200 IM,
Hannah Harper crushed the school record by 2 seconds and finished 3rd.
After the 50 free, Osbourn Park and Forest Park distanced themselves
from everyone else, but AHS was leading the second pack of teams.
Hannah Harper turned in her second individual school record breaking
performance in the 100 butterfly finishing 2nd. Holly Harper dominated
the 100 freestyle, winning the event and breaking the school record in
the process. After the 500 freestyle, Osbourn Park was able to pull
away from everyone like their male counterparts. Albemarle also had a
strong performance in the event, distancing themselves from everyone
else, and cutting Forest Parks lead from 46 to 27 for second place.
Leading the way with life time bests were Morton, Abby Wild, and
Mackenzie Jones, finishing 7th, 12th, and 16th. Forest Park pushed the
lead back up to 41 after the won the 200 Freestyle Relay. But Holly
Harper, Miller, and Melanie Freshwater all turned in life time best
swims in the 100 backstroke. Miller and Freshwater finished 12th and
13th, but it was Holly's performance that left the pool deck buzzing.
Her new school record and Region winning time of 56.24 is an All
American Consideration time, and only .14 off of the Automatic All
American standard. AHS was within 13 points of second place. Nikki
Ross was able to keep Forest Park from pulling away, finishing 15th in
the 100 breaststroke. The relay of Morton, Hannah Harper, Miller, and
Holly Harper did everything they could to catch Forest Park, breaking
the school record and finishing 2nd in the 400 freestyle relay, but it
wasn't quite enough, taking third place by 3.5 points. Qualifying for
states are Holly Harper (100fr, 100bk, 200MR, 400FR), Hannah Harper
(200im, 100fly, 200MR, 400FR), Kelly Miller (200MR, 400MR), Casey
Kyriacopoulos (1M Diving), Corie Morton (400FR), and Nikki Ross
(200MR). Melanie Freshwater will also be travelling with the team as a
relay alternate
