In an attempt to join the boys as district champions, the girls put up a hard, back and forth fight between Colonial Forge and North Stafford. The Patriot ladies were so distracted by Colonial Forge's lead that they forgot about North Stafford. The final score came down to the last race in which Albemarle placed second, behind Colonial Forge, who was already out of the race for top team, and just ahead of North Stafford. The extra point, however, was not enough. In the final score, North Stafford edged out Albemarle by a single point, 97 to 96. Albemarle placed second in all three of their relays, securing positions for a competitive regional team. Holly Harper won the 200 freestyle, along with Corie Morton, and Mackenzie Jones placing 7th and 8th. Hannah Harper and Bailie Monahan of Colonial Forge, went head to head for the first of two races. Harper lowered her best time, but Monahan just out touched her. Nikki Ross placed 7th in the 50 free, lowering her lifetime best. In another race, Hannah Harper and Monahan raced in the 100 fly, with the same outcome. Holly Harper won the 100 freestyle. In the 500 freestyle, Corie Morton almost tied her best time, placing 3rd. Abby Wild dropped 9 seconds from her best and placed 6th. Mackenzie Jones placed 8th. Kelly Miller and Melanie Freshwater placed 5th and 7th in the 100 backstroke, Miller improving her time by over a second. Nikki Ross came in at 8th place in the 100 breaststoke. The team did a great job of stepping up to a challenge, and are using their frustration with a single point loss, as motivation for Friday's regionals.
Girls that qualified for regionals- Hannah Harper, Holly Harper, Abby Wild, Mackenzie Jones, Kelly Miller, Nikki Ross, Melanie Freshwater, Sophia Brown, Corie Morton.
